As an award-winning detective, you were chosen to locate Mr. Salamander Jones, a fugitive wanted in the United States. However, Salamander Jones is known to be a cultured traveler, sneakily traversing the world visiting renowned landmarks. And, he doesn’t stay in one place for long. In order to find Salamander Jones, you must match his cultured caliber by solving clues in each city you are in. The clues involve identifying types of figurative language which describe the landmark you are currently at. If you cannot solve the clue, you cannot move to the next city. Thus, you must not only find Salamander, but you must be able to match his cultured intelligence.
This webquest is aligned to the Pennsylvania Department of Education Standards for Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening. The standards addressed are 1.3.8C, analyze the effect of various literary devices including sound techniques and figurative language; 1.4.8A write short stories, poems, and plays; and 1.6.8E participate in small and large group discussions and presentations.
